Thanks to my wife (strategically) leaving her laptop open on their website, I recently ‘discovered’ the ace Selfish Mother (www.selfishmother.com); a brilliantly funny yet informative blogzine set up by writer and social media queen Molly Gunn, created for ‘brilliant humans’ who just happen to be parents.
After reading a bucket loads of their posts, which focus on what parents are really thinking (rather than the cookie-cutter image of ‘perfection’ that the media likes to promote), I was amazed to discover the incredible charitable initiatives that Selfish Mother are promoting via their online shop. Let me tell you, I was seriously impressed.
Selling a wide range of T-shirts and sweatshirts for parents and kids alike, the Selfish Mother shop not only has some really cool apparel in its own right but. They also give a massive slug of the profits to worthwhile charities like Women for Women International, The Refugee Council UK, KIDS and Help Refugees UK, and have raised more than £100,000 so far (as at February 2016).
Inspired by their efforts, I immediately joined their club and bought my pregnant wife one of their MAMA-branded boyfriend sweatshirts as her first ever Mothers’ Day present (as you might remember, we’re having our first baby in September 2016, so it’s more of a Mother-to-be present in reality).
I’m pleased to report that they’re customer service was excellent (giving advice to this clueless bloke on sizing) and the item arrived in the post in record time, within 24 hours.
Needless to say, the wife absolutely loves it (it’s made of super cosy soft cotton) and has been wearing it almost every day since – here’s the proof:
However, as I explored their website even more, I was again inspired and heartened to see that Selfish Mother not only caters for mums, but actually gives us dads a look in too, with a whole range of clothes targeted at fathers, proudly exclaiming on their shop that:
“Men do sterling work as fathers and we want to celebrate them!”
Here are some of my favourites items for us guys…
What’s really cool is that each design is linked with a different worthwhile cause, so every time you buy something, you are actually making a real difference to someone’s life. And we’re not talking just a few pennies from each purchase.
Selfish Mother actually donates £10 from each t-shirt and £15 from each sweatshirt to the corresponding charities, including Prostate Cancer UK (on sales of their PAPA design), Kids Charity UK (for their FAKING IT collection) and The Refugee Council (for their HUMAN prints), which shows solidarity for refugees and asylum seekers across the world.
As you can probably tell, I’m a big fan, both of their charitable efforts and the blog itself, so I definitely recommend you check them out here, or via Instagram or Twitter too.
Awesome work Selfish Mother – I salute you! And if my wife is reading this, I’d like the grey and navy PAPA sweatshirt for Fathers’ Day…
Just 26 weeks and 1 day left to go until we become selfish parents for real!

Gutted I’ve seen this after farher’s day as my hubby is French so is called Papa in our house and I LOVE that sweatshirt. His birthdays coming up though so will make a perfect gift from the kids. Thanks for the tip off.
P.s did you get it for Father’s Day?

Haha…I love it too! As luck would have it, I became one of the founding contributors to Father Inc, the daddy version of Selfish Mother, and we all were given one at launch!
Have my own ‘winging it’ sweatshirt which I wear too toddler group. It makes me laugh as I burst through the door three kids in tow wearing my shirt. They are doing a fab job at selfish mother and such cool stuff…

These are really cool, I’ve noticed them on Instagram before too.
I got a MOTHER jumper for Mother’s Day this year, thanks to lots of hinting at the hubby. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality! Congrats on your impending arrival! #FabFridayPost
I love Selfish Mother. I got one of their T-shirts in the goody bag at BlogFest and now I, along with most other bloggers it seems, am a convert. Love the Mother sweatshirts. #FabFridayPost

You should! They’re seriously cool, not just as a blog and shop but as a collective movement for parents too!
I’ve written a few posts for Selfish Mother. Haven’t bought any of their t.shirts yet, but LOVE what they do and how they support children and parents in need. Hope you get your Papa Sweatshirt!! #TwinklyTuesday

I have one os the Mother sweatshirts and I wear it about three times a week – I really need another one to alternate 😉 I bet your lovely wife was thrilled, they are so lovely and comfy as well as doing good – what’s not to like! I didn’t know they did them for men as well though, so thanks for the tip off! Becky x #TwinklyTuesday

Thanks Becky – yes, the dad range is really cool, and supports some dad related charities too, so I think more guys should join the club!
I love Selfish Mother. I have’t actually got around to buying anything yet but I love the fact so much of their profits go to charity. The blog is great too and I love their InstaGram feed. I bet your wife was so happy with her jumper, I hope she sees this and gets you the Papa one for Father’s Day 🙂 x #TwinklyTuesday
