There are blog perks. But then there are BLOG PERKS! And as perks go, they don’t come much bigger than getting invited to the opening night of Cirque du Soleil’s incredible new family-friendly production, OVO, at the Royal Albert Hall.
Having thrilled more than 5 million people worldwide since the production premiered in Montreal in 2009, OVO (meaning “egg” in Portuguese) is a headlong rush into a colourful ecosystem teeming with life, where insects work, eat, crawl, flutter, play, fight and look for love in a non-stop riot of energy and movement.
And wow…just WOW!! They didn’t disappoint on the night. With a cast of 50 performing artists from 17 countries delivering an incredible show of jaw-dropping acrobatic acts, they kept us on the edge of our seats throughout the two hour spectacular, which we didn’t want to end.
From a gaggle of incredible foot jugglers, juggling giant kiwi slices and suitcase-sized corn on the cobs (as well as other jugglers!) using nothing but their feet, to amazing aerial acrobats and insane trapeze artists defying gravity above our heads, the whole audience was in complete awe from the very start…both adults and kids alike.
Not to mention a whole array of hand balancing gymnasts and contortionists, a Diabolo spinning demon and the most nail biting tightrope act you’ll ever experience, we couldn’t tear our eyes away for a moment.
And it wouldn’t be Cirque du Soleil without their team of story-telling clowns – this time dressed as an gang of weird and wonderful insects – delivering what can only be described as a Benny Hill meets Upsy Daisy / ‘In the Night Garden’ modern love story, that kept us laughing throughout thanks to their mix of innocent humour for kids and innuendo-filled gags to make us oldies snort…
I’ve been to two of Cirque du Soleil’s shows before (never with such good seats though as the other night!) but this one was hands down the best and well worth checking out if you’re looking for a special treat that all the family can enjoy.
Tickets for the Royal Albert Hall run are on sale now until 4 March 2018. But it’s not all about London like so many shows…
As this summer, OVO will embark on a brand-new UK arena tour starting in Liverpool on 16 August 2018, before visiting Sheffield, Newcastle, Glasgow, Nottingham, Leeds, Manchester and finally Birmingham, ending on 7 October 2018.
Tickets for the tour are on sale now and can be bought via the Cirque du Soleil website or at www.livenation.co.uk, so well worth a look if you live nearby!
