I don’t know about you, but there’s nothing quite like the changing of the seasons and the arrival of cold weather to create a bit of marital disharmony in our house. You see, while my wife is one of those ‘constantly cold’ people, who carries around a hot water bottle for 10 months of the year and would have our thermostat permanently set to ‘tropical’ if she had her way, I couldn’t be more different.
For me, I never really feel the cold and I hate (most of all) feeling overheated. So, when the temperature outside starts to dip, you won’t see me cranking up the heating. Oh no. Just chuck on a jumper and some woolly socks, I say…it has exactly the same effect and, more importantly, costs absolutely nothing!
But as a result of this inconvenient husband and wife body temperature mismatch, we often find ourselves in a clandestine battle over the thermostat during the winter months, with my wife secretly turning it on without telling me, and me secretly turning it off when she isn’t looking.
On, off. Hot, cold. We just can’t find a balance that works for us both. And that’s before you throw a one year old baby into the mix…
As if that wasn’t frustrating enough, what really gets my goat is when my wife forgets to turn off the heating after she’s secretly put it on full blast. I can’t tell you how many times we’ve returned from a weekend away or woken up in the middle of the night, baking hot and sweating buckets, in a house more akin to a sauna than a cosy home, resulting in our heating bills going through the roof and sending me into hot sweats (both physically and emotionally).
This seriously clever device is light years ahead compared to our old on/off heating system (which basically fluctuates between freezing cold and boiling hot, with little middle ground). Because it takes the guesswork out of heating our home by allowing us to manage the actual temperature of it throughout the day and night via our mobile phones and tablet.
No longer do we need to rely on tweaking the settings on every radiator around the house, using trial and error to figure out the perfect balance for our heating needs. Now we simply set the temperature we want our home to be at different times of the day through the Lyric App (or on the Lyric T6 Smart Thermostat itself) and the T6 will work out how to get there, whatever the temperature is outside.
I’m pleased to say that the Lyric App is really easy to use on the move, if you want to change your heating preferences when you’re out of the house for longer/shorter than planned, or indeed if you want to be super organised and schedule your heating for the week ahead. Say, 21 degrees between 6am-8am, 17 degrees during the day, 22 degrees for the hours leading up to bed time, and then 19 degrees throughout the night while you’re tucked up under your duvet. The Lyric T6 can sort it for you, no problem…
It even comes with Geofencing location based temperature controls, which is when things get really clever. Basically, this means setting your Lyric T6 Thermostat to use your smartphone location to determine when you’re home or away. It will then automatically save energy when you’re away by keeping any heating to a minimum, while ensuring the temperature is just right for when you return home. How clever is that?!
What’s more, the Lyric T6 Smart Thermostat is one of those really innovative new pieces of domestic tech that really connects your home. As it can be controlled not only by your phone but also by Siri, Apple HomeKit, Amazon Echo and Google Home, allowing you to make changes to your heating through voice commands alone. The future is here people!!
So if, like us, your heating system is archaic and in no way user friendly. Or if you constantly disagree with your other half over when to put the heating on, I can highly recommend the Lyric T6 Smart Thermostat, which not only makes your heating system more intelligent, more predictable, and more efficient, but significantly more cost effective too. Every little bit helps right?!
